About Me
Hello! My name is Adrien Hopkins. I am a Software Engineering alumni, who graduated from York University in 2025. I have always been interested in math, science and computers, but also other things including music, language, and history. Some of my hobbies include developing my personal programming projects, reading, video games and browsing interesting sites on the Internet. I love learning, am good at what I do, and I am good at doing what I need to, even things I don’t enjoy.
I was born in a suburb of Ottawa, to an upper-middle income family who worked hard to give me the best childhood they could. In seventh grade, we moved to Barrie, changing my life forever. These experiences, and others, taught me two important lessons: Because hard work was what made my good childhood possible, and because it allowed me to succeed in life, I learned how important it was. Because I was aware that most people did not live in as much luxury as I did, I learned the importance of helping others and making a better world.
I chose to attend York University for a variety of reasons, the biggest being that it was close enough to home for me to commute instead of living on campus. I initially chose Software Engineering because it was a prestigious and professional degree in something I was already skilled at, but I realized in my first year there was a better reason: that Engineering is about solving problems, and that I could use these skills to solve global problems. By now, I’ve achieved a lot in my 20 months of Co-op - my most rewarding experience has been my major web database project at Sanofi - it involved a lot of skills, and the final project was a huge improvement over the previous manual system.
The greatest inspiration and teacher in my life is my mother. She is the person who primarily taught me the importance of hard work (alongside life itself). She taught this to me both directly and by being a role model of hard work leading to success. She also spent lots of effort ensuring I was educated from the moment I was born – thanks to her, I could count before I could speak.

I think my clarinet represents me well. I played in the band from seventh grade to twelfth grade, primarily with this clarinet (I did play a few other instruments though). One of my band’s greatest accomplishments is winning gold in MusicFest Nationals 2019 in Ottawa. Playing music requires lots of hard work in the form of practicing, and it requires working with others to make one great sound.
